"Light 'Em Up, Boyz!" by Lola "BlueWorrior" Harvey and Goji replacing "Fun is Infinite at AGM" by continuum.mid
Jute's calm text screen track flowing into the slow intro of this track and then just exploding to start the action...
Change the sofas to resemble actual sofas instead of flesh, using COMPTILEs with texture offsets to emulate chair legs without having to make new textures.
Restore Ralphis' old E1M1 track as E1M5 - taking Matt's suggestion here into heart: https://github.com/freedoom/freedoom/pull/1292#issuecomment-1913358481_
"The Raging Sun" - although I like it - is quite bland. Ralphis' old E1M1 track is a fast-action-styled track that fits the shooting gallery aspect of E1M5.
Also addressed #996 for the crate area and simplified a bit of geometry (no visual changes, just merging sectors), as well as giving more internally consistent lighting to the basement red key area.
Continue what was done in 0.10 and replace all of the Doom remixes.
This track should've been replaced a while ago.
While it is a good E1M1 track and a good remix at that, the "remix" part is the problem.
"Crawl" is a medium-paced metal track that helps set the mood at the start of the adventure.
"Tunnel" feels out of place among E2's tracks and a lot more suited for the sandy, Egyptian temple-styled DM06. The feeling is coming from the harpsichord and thrashy instrumentation.
"Workout" is a lot more upbeat and fitting for the first few E2 tracks, Korp had originally intended it for E2M1 also.
"Shells" is a lot faster and more suited for the small, duel map that is DM23.
"White Lights" is more grandiose (why it was removed in 0.12 in the first place, didn't fit E1M2 at all) and fits the large, fortress-like DM27.
"Shells" by Ospaggi replacing "Music for Freedoom 7" by Jeremy "Vandalorian" Emerson which has been moved to DM04 replacing "Rush" by Kevin "Velvetic" Martins and Simone Alauk.
Coming from Matt saying "it's going to take a lot more work to make all the stuff surrounding the melody into the old-school RPG battle track I want it to be"; restore "The Heroic Battle" by Picklehammer from 0.1 MAP03 and 0.12.1 DM06 as DM14.
Minor credits fixes.
Shuffling tracks again to keep them in-line with where Korp intended them to be.
Move "Reminiscence" to E2M5.
"Fortress 31" (for which "Nightstorm" was written) was moved from E2M5 to E2M9.
Lastly, move "Tunnel" to E2M3 to accommodate for the track shuffling.
In my opinion, it doesn't fit this map at all - but this is the only place it can go,
I thought of moving "Workout" here and this track to DM06, that's an option if needed.
"Stanky Leg Specialist" by Lola "BlueWorrior" Harvey
Also updating credits to fix a few errors;
"Doom2Alt.mid" capitalization.
Consistency for "Sewers".
Ralphis' Crucified Dreams track titles as added by Afterglow here: https://doomwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Crucified_Dreams&oldid=232568
for future reference:
d_dm2ttl "Fight for Freedom" by Korp, based on ph-untitled.mid by Tyler "Picklehammer" Pantella
d_intro/a "Horizon's Call" by Korp
d_e3m1 "Intrare In Infernum" by Lola "BlueWorrior" Harvey (E3M1)
New track "Oxidine" by Korp (based loosely on Jute's previous E1M6 track) slotted for E1M6 replacing "Panic" by Ajanddino.
New track "Hidden Between Spades" by Korp slotted for E1M9.
"Derelict" by continuum.mid moved from E1M9 to E1M7.
"Sewers" by Discoholic and Blastfrog moved from E1M7 to Map12, replacing BobFromReboot's untitled track.
Rationale for posterity:
I really appreciate how Korp managed to take the old E1M6 track and rework it into something that slaps. The current track, while functional and not derivative in a way that would require its replacement, is still very reminiscent of Doom's rock/metal tracks in a way the rest of FD E1's music is not, which just makes the resemblances stick out even more.
"Derelict" has always only marginally worked for E1M9 (or rather it doesn't work, but still works better for it than the current E1M5). The dark, brooding ominous track works *much* better for the antepenultimate level, while the low-key funky riff of "Sewers" works much better for the cluster starter warming up after the intermission text than either "Derelict" or the current Map12 track.
When I first started up Map19 with music for the first time in ages I thought the MIDI had glitched somehow and the instrumentation fell back on "Acoustic Grand" the way a lot of things did when I was younger. When I checked the MIDI it still sounded like it was supposed to be something else and the composer forgot to set the instrument, or it's a *really* experimental thing that frankly doesn't really fit a game - or at least not something that is not itself an extremely experimental abstract concept level which Map19 is not.
After some experimentation tremolo strings stood out by a fairly large margin as the best option.
Take it down from "actually physically painful" to "blaring" - the song is more singing to you (if still aggressively) than shouting at you.
Help bring out some of the harmonics and the bass riffs.
* music: restore korp's dm07; move rost's new tracks
Addresses #965 with an edit of the original music rather than an entirely new track.
Moves rost's recent submissions to two other maps that need new music.
* Update CREDITS
Quick fix pending further action re: #1007.
